Content: Since 1948, the James City-Bruton Volunteer Fire Department (JCBVFD) has faithfully served the citizens of James City County, York County and New Kent County. The volunteers at the JCBVFD respond to nearly 1500 fire, medical and other emergencies each year. In addition to responding to emergency calls everyday, we provide public assistance through safety education, smoke detector installation, safety inspections and service checks. Every day, our volunteers respond to emergencies ranging from fires, vehicle accidents, water rescues, natural disasters, industrial accidents, hazardous material incidents and emergency medical situations. They volunteer their time and risk their lives and safety for their neighbors and community. They receive no financial compensation and many times are called away from their families in the middle of the night. While providing these services, JCBVFD also offers the finest training available to our members. In house, we have qualified and experienced instructors who provide quality, up to date training, which enables our members to be amongst the finest and most well trained volunteers firefighters in the Commonwealth. Because of the exceptional training we provide, we can train someone without any fire experience and transform them into a highly competent, state certified, firefighter. The certificates that our members earn are the very same certifications achieved by career, or paid, firefighters in local fire academies. These classes include classroom time with our experienced instructors, live burn building training, simulated scenarios and hands on training with state-of-the-art equipment. Here are just a few of the classes we offer... Firefighter One Intro to FireFighting / 99+ Hours Firefighter Two Advanced Firefighting / 40+ Hours EVOC 2 & 3 Certified to Drive Emergency Vehicles / 16+ Hours HazMat Operations Advanced Training for Hazardous Materials Response / 32+ Hours Emergency Medical Technician (B) 154+ Hours And many more! In the last year alone, our volunteers have completed hundreds of hours of training to better prepare themselves to answer the call of the citizens and friends of James City County. All of this hard work and dedication saves the taxpayers of James City County an estimated 1.5 million dollars a year. The volunteers at JCBVFD are committed to providing the best in quality care to you, your family and our community. With the reliability and dedication of our highly trained volunteer firefighters, you and your loved ones are given the highest quality of services at a momentâ€™s notice during your time of need. Whenever there is an emergency, you can count on the volunteers at JCBVFD to answer the call. Now we are asking you to answer our call of need.
